Destination Denver: advice for fans traveling to AFC Championship

DENVER, CO (WGGB/WSHM) -- For the first time since 2019, the New England Patriots will be making an appearance in the AFC Championship game as they travel to Colorado to take on the Denver Broncos.
AAA Northeast is offering advice for fans making the trip to the Mile High City and AAA spokesperson Mark Schieldrop said travelers should be aware that Denver Airport has a special baggage claim just for skiers. “And you can get caught up in that, so pay attention to when they tell you where your luggage carousel is, so you can avoid that crowd and get your stuff and get going,” he explained.
Schieldrop noted it’s important to pay attention to local news during the visit. “There may be things happening. There may be local alerts or advisories that you really want to pay attention to. There may be areas where you might not easily drive to…just any sort of travel or transportation hiccup that might happen,” he added.
For fans heading to Sunday’s game, Uber and Lyft prices are expected to increase significantly. “So, I would strongly suggest folks explore other ways to get to the stadium. Light rail might be the best option,” Schieldrop said.
Travelers should also prepare for Denver’s high elevation by staying hydrated, wearing sunscreen even on cold days, and pacing themselves throughout the day.
