East Longmeadow police arrest suspect in reported kidnapping, assault

EAST LONGMEADOW, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – An arrest has been made following a reported possible kidnapping and assault in East Longmeadow.
East Longmeadow Police said 19-year-old Ezier Santiago of Springfield was arrested Thursday morning on charges including kidnapping and assault and battery on a family or household member.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred near East Longmeadow High School around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators said that they received several 911 calls regarding a possible kidnapping and assault on Maple Street.
A search of the area was conducted, but the suspect reportedly fled the area before officers arrived. Authorities added that several witnesses reported that the victim left the area on their own after fleeing from the suspect.
The next morning, police explained that they had identified and spoken with people involved in Tuesday’s incident and confirmed their safety.
Following his arrest, Santiago was transported to court for arraignment.
East Longmeadow Police added that they wanted to thank the members of the public to report the suspicious activity and those who took action to help the victim. “Your efforts were instrumental in preventing further harm and helping police identify those involved,” they noted in a social media post Thursday.
