Families flock to Shad Fest for water sports and river celebration
(WGGB/WSHM) - The second annual Shad Fest celebrated the Connecticut River and the migration of shad in western Massachusetts over the weekend.
Shad are a fish that migrate from the Atlantic up the Connecticut River.
Some people in Holyoke joined them in the water by trying kayaking, rowing, fishing, and river-themed arts and crafts. “It’s just a chance to get a wider community down here. It’s a lovely spot and when people find they like to come back and they check out our kayaks and our rowing and the other programs that we offer,” said John Hooks-Davis.
The festival also had local vendors, music, and free ice cream.
