FDA approves Wegovy pill for weight loss

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- While patients currently must get weekly injections of the weight loss drug Wegovy, the FDA has now approved a daily pill version of the product.
Novo Nordisk, the maker of this pill, said this version has about the same weight loss results and side effects in clinical trials as the Wegovy shot.
The company’s lead doctor says that the FDA’s decision brings an alternative for patients who don’t like getting shots.
Nordisk also states that the pill should become available by prescription in January.
