PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- A former staff member at Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield was indicted on 3-counts of rape on Tuesday, following a long-running investigation into alleged abuse of students.

Police first opened a case spring 2024, after allegations came out that Matthew Rutledge sexually assaulted students while teaching at Miss Hall’s. No charges were filed at that time, but the investigation stayed open.

Later, a separate report commissioned by the school’s board was reviewed which found a pervasive pattern of inappropriate staff conduct. Using both sets of findings, prosecutors say they determined Rutledge violated Massachusetts Law.

The investigation into Rutledge, and any other potential offending staff at miss hall’s, remains active. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit.
