Golf courses open for spring season after harsh winter
LONGMEADOW, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- After a harsh winter, spring has arrived and many local golf courses are opening up for the season.
Golfers hit the course Friday morning as they geared up for an anticipated season. Attilio Cardaropoli, general manager at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, said a lot goes into preparation before the season starts. “We have people that have to take care of the greens, the tee boxes, the fairways, everything, the chipping areas, and also the driving range,” he explained.
During the winter, they usually do some maintenance on the course, but this winter was different. “This year, it seemed like all we did was shovel snow and plow and everything else, so it was a tough year, but we made it through and we’re in great shape right now,” Cardaropoli added.
Brian Plumb of Ellington said he is eager to get back on the course this spring. “After long months of winter being stuck inside, after going through every show you could possibly go through on Netflix, I’m excited like a bear coming out of hibernation to get after it this season,” he explained.
Plumb added he has lots of plans to catch up on his swing this season. “I try to get out like a couple times a week. This whole work thing gets in the way, but Monday through Thursdays are really great, but try and get out Friday, Saturday, Sunday,” he noted.
