SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- From the Berkshires to Brimfield, and every point in between, Monday was a day to celebrate western Massachusetts.

On Monday, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey proclaimed Monday, April 13, 2026 as ‘413 Day’ in the commonwealth. In her proclamation, she noted that the region is known for, among other things, “it’s diverse landscapes” including Mount Greylock, the state’s highest peak, the Connecticut River valley, and the Quabbin Reservoir, which provides water to dozens of greater Boston communities and is open for fishing, hiking, and boating.

She added that the 413 also welcomes people of diverse backgrounds, including Northampton which serves “as a beacon of acceptance and support for the LGBTQ+ community” and Holyoke, which has “the highest per capita Puerto Rican population in the continental United States.”

The area’s attractions “that bring people together from across the state and country” - including the Basketball Hall of Fame, The Big E, Tanglewood, Six Flags New England - were also recognized in the proclamation.

Massachusetts State Senator Adam Gomez added, “413 Day is about more than an area code — it’s about community, culture, and pride. From Springfield to Chicopee and across the 413, our strength has always been our people — resilient, diverse, and deeply rooted in one another. Today, we celebrate where we come from and recommit ourselves to building a future that honors it."

State and federal lawmakers will be making stops and visits to the area as part of ‘413 Day’. Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll will be visiting to tout various programs and policies ranging from housing to outdoor recreation to education, while Congressman Richard Neal will meet with Easthampton High School students ahead of their ‘We The People’ national competition and he will be in Springfield to announce federal funding for the East Springfield library.
