Haverhill man convicted of sexual assault, violating abuse prevention order

HAVERHILL, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- A Former Athol resident has been convicted of sexual assault and violating an abuse prevention order. Prosecutors say 43-year-old Joseph Richard of Haverhill was found guilty by an Orange District Court Jury after a two-day trial.
The charges stem from 2024, when Richard was living in Athol and sexually assaulted an intimate partner. He then contacted them, violating a restraining order.
Richard was sentenced to two and a half years in the house of correction; the maximum allowed in district court, followed by 18 months of probation. He must also register as a sex offender.
