HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- A Holyoke Community College student has been suspended from campus while police investigate allegations that the student recorded others using the bathroom without their knowledge.

An email was sent to the campus community shortly before 4 p.m. Friday describing an incident where an individual allegedly used a cell phone to record people using the bathroom without them knowing.

The school confirmed the suspect to be a student who has been placed on interim suspension, a temporary measure to remove a student from campus if they are believed to pose a threat to themselves, others, or university property. The identity of the student has not been revealed.

HCC says they are confident there is “no on-going threat to the privacy or safety of the college community.” They added, “We want to be abundantly clear: the safety and security of the students, staff, and community members at HCC is of the utmost importance…Should we have additional information that can be shared, we will do so as soon as possible. If you have any information you believe is related to this matter, please contact HCC campus police.”

The school also said, “We recognize that news of this nature is difficult to receive, and we are grateful for the resilience of this community. With less than a month to commencement, let’s support one another and come together to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of the HCC class of 2026.”

The Hampden District Attorney’s Office is overseeing the investigation. No arrests have been made.
