SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- With Christmas less than two weeks away, major shipping carriers have announced deadlines for holiday deliveries, with some cutoff dates just days away.

All major carriers have shared their shipping deadlines for Christmas delivery, with most recommending packages be sent out this week.  FedEx set Monday, December 15 as the deadline for ground economy shipping to arrive by December 25.

The United States Postal Service has set December 17 as the latest date to send both packages and cards, regardless of ground shipping or first-class mail options.  UPS also uses December 17 as their deadline for ground shipping, though dates may vary based on origin and destination locations.

More expensive shipping options remain available from all carriers for those who wait longer, but costs could double or triple compared to standard mailing rates.  Vlad Tsvor, manager at Agawam Pack and Ship, is seeing up to a 20 percent increase in customers compared to previous holiday seasons and he emphasized the need to send gifts now and budget time for the packaging process.  “So, if you’re not doing your own packaging and you’re going to drop it off, you know, come even sooner. You know, come sooner, a week sooner, but if you have it already packaged, just come on in in a respectable time,” he explained.

While carrier deadlines hover around December 17, business days also factor into delivery schedules. Not all carriers operate seven days a week, meaning packages sent before the deadline may not be delivered before December 25 if sent on non-business days.
