Holyoke man arrested on drug charges during code violation check

HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Holyoke man is facing charges after a check for neighborhood code violations led to his arrest.

Around 6 p.m. Monday, police saw several code violations related to abandoned vehicles in the area of Clemente Street and Cabot Street, according to Holyoke Police. Those violations also included food trailers and trash that was seen scattered in a Clemente Street parking lot.

Detectives were checking for further violations when they saw 37-year-old Angel Santiago of Holyoke allegedly selling drugs on Clemente Street. He was detained and police recovered several bundles and a half-pack, which contained 50 bags, of suspected heroin or fentanyl and several vials of suspected cocaine. As he was placed under arrest, they also recovered more than $1,000 in cash, a knife, and more drugs.

Santiago, whom police said two prior convictions for drug distribution, is facing charges including possession with the intent to distribute a Class A and Class B Drug (subsequent offense) and possession with the intent to distribute a Class A and Class B drug (subsequent offense).
