HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – An arrest has been made in connection with a weekend shooting in Holyoke.

Holyoke Police said officers were called to Holyoke Medical Center around 1:20 p.m. Sunday after a shooting victim had been dropped off at the hospital.  They then learned that the shooting took place on the 200 block of Maple Street.

The victim suffered serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Investigators learned that the victim and the suspect knew one another and were able to identify 40-year-old Jose Carrasquillo-Rodriguez of Holyoke as a suspect.  Around 4:30 p.m., police found a gun that Carrasquillo-Rodriguez allegedly tossed in Suffolk Street dumpster.

Around 9 p.m. police found Carrasquillo-Rodriguez in the area of 181 West Franklin Street and placed him under arrest.  Police allege that Carrasquillo-Rodriguez was combative, kicked two sergeants, spit at an officer, and another officer was injured while the suspect was resisting during the booking process.

Carrasquillo-Rodriguez is facing charges of armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, improper storage of a firearm, mayhem, withholding evidence from a criminal proceeding, wanton destruction of property less than $1,200, and four counts of assault and battery on a police officer.
