Investigation underway after reported shooting at Sturbridge hotel

STURBRIDGE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) — An investigation is underway following a reported shooting at the Sturbridge Plaza Hotel.

Sturbridge Police said they received reports of shots fired at the hotel, located at 400 Haynes Street and just off I-84, just before 1 a.m. Thursday.

An SUV crashed into the hotel, causing exterior and interior damage. Sturbridge Police said a shooting ensued afterwards.

Authorities have been seen surrounding the SUV and placing evidence markers on the ground throughout the morning. Crews have also been going in and out of the hotel, trying to piece together what happened.

Sturbridge Police, Massachusetts State Police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene. The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office is also involved in the investigation.

As of this morning, it is not known if there are any injuries or deaths.

Police said there is no active threat to the public. They are asking the public to give investigators time to complete a thorough and complete investigation.
