Judge blocks deportation of Tufts University student

MEDFORD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- An immigration judge stopped removal proceedings against Rümeysa Öztürk, the Tufts University doctoral student who was detained for over a month in 2025.
Her attorneys say the Department of Homeland Security hadn’t met its burden to prove her removability, prompting the immigration court to end removal proceedings.
They say she was targeted by the Trump Administration to try to chill pro-Palestinian speech.
