BOSTON (WGGB/WSHM) -- Families of fallen police officers will soon have a new way to honor their loved one.

On Wednesday, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey will sign ‘An Act Establishing the Blue Star Family license plate.’ The bill will allow family members of those killed in the line-of-duty to receive a commemorative plate free of charge.

“Establishing this new license plate would be a small but significant gesture from Massachusetts that would mean a great deal to Blue Star Families as a tribute to their loved one’s service, courage and heroism,” Healey said in testimony before a legislative committee in October.

Healey will be joined by Massachusetts State Polce Supt. Col. Geoffrey Noble and Public Safety & Security Secretary Gina Kwon.

Western Mass News will continue to follow this story and have more starting at 4 p.m. on ABC40.
