SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Another operation by Springfield Police to deter illegal dirt bike and off-highway vehicles on city streets has led one arrest and two criminal complaints.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said these kinds of vehicles “have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders,” and added, “Some riders are also known to drive recklessly, putting pedestrians and other vehicular traffic in danger.”

On Thursday, officers stopped a dirt bike rider on White Street, near Allen Street. The adult male rider was issued a criminal complaint and the dirt bike was towed away. They also encountered a female motorcycle rider who sped away from officers. Police were aware that her motorcycle was unregistered and she was unlicensed, based on previous encounters with her, and she was also issued a criminal complaint.

Also Thursday, a dirt bike rider, identified by police as 25-year-old Davien Arroyo of Springfield, was spotted on Freeman Street and tried to get away from police, but the bike stalled out. He was arrested on the 0-100 block of Hamlet Street on charges including operating a snow or recreational vehicle on a public way, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, and a snow or recreational vehicle helmet violation.
