SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Springfield Police took another gun off the street following an arrest around 8 p.m. Tuesday on Marion Street.

Investigators found that the high capacity gun was loaded when they said they recovered it from 31-year-old Willie Woods Jr. of Springfield. Police originally responded to a disturbance call involving a gun and officers caught up with Woods down the block after he tried to drive away from the scene.

Woods then tried to run away on foot, only to get caught and taken into custody. He now faces gun charges in addition to assault and battery on an officer.

A female passenger was also in Woods’ car at the time, but she was released.
