Man charged with shooting at two people in Springfield neighborhood

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Springfield man is in custody after allegedly shooting at two people on Tuesday.
Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said officers responded to the 0-100 block of Belmont Avenue around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday for reported shots fired. When they arrived, damage to a vehicle and other evidence was found at the scene. Police also learned that someone reportedly involved in the shooting ran into the basement of a Belmont Avenue apartment building.
A suspect, identified as 29-year-old Deshaun Stenson of Springfield, was found with the basement, along with a gun. While searching Stenson, police reportedly seized approximately 14 grams of crack-cocaine. “After reviewing video, officers observed Stenson allegedly shooting at two subjects, who have yet to be identified,” Walsh explained.
Stenson, whom police said has a prior conviction in Hampden Superior Court for the illegal possession of a firearm, was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, improper storage of a firearm, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, possession of a Class B drug, breaking and entering for a misdemeanor, and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.
