Man dead, suspect arrested after shooting in Springfield wooded area

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – One person is dead and another is under arrest after a deadly shooting in Springfield.
Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said officers were called to a wooded area on the 200 block of Parker Street for a reported shooting victim. When they arrived, they found an adult male victim, who was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died.
“The 911 caller and shooting suspect, identified as 29-year-old Elijah Salaam [of Springfield], has a license to carry firearms,” Walsh explained, adding that a gun was recovered and Salaam was arrested on a murder charge.
The case remains under investigation by the Springfield Police homicide unit, in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s murder unit.
