Man found sleeping in stolen car facing drug, weapons charges

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Pennsylvania man is facing several charges after police found him sleeping in a stolen vehicle.
Springfield police officers reportedly saw a stolen vehicle parked at the intersection of Locust Street and Woodside Terrace Saturday morning, according to Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh. When they approached the vehicle, they saw the driver, identified as 24-year-old Haleem Payne of Philadelphia, PA, allegedly sleeping.
Investigators detained Payne and reportedly found $615 in cash, three bags of heroin, crack-cocaine, and the stolen vehicle’s key fob on him. Walsh added that a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an additional $215 in cash and a bag that contained a large-capacity gun with a barrel extension and an extended magazine loaded with 19 rounds.
Payne was arrested on charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large-capacity magazine or feeding device, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, and possession with the intent to distribute a Class D drug.
