SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The Hampden District Attorney’s Office has identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting on December 20 in Springfield.

He is 38-year-old Dennis Girard of Springfield.

Police responded to Worcester Street after a 911 call about a man armed with a knife and exhibiting what was described as psychotic behavior. An officer fired his weapon, striking Girard, who died at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by Springfield Police and the D.A.’s office. Findings on the use-of-force will be released publicly once finalized.
