UXBRIDGE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Worcester County town is mourning an officer who was killed in the line-of-duty.

Uxbridge Town Clerk Kelly Cote said that one of their officers was on-duty and helping a driver along Route 146 north around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday when the crash occurred. “Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders, the officer succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision,” she added.

The officer’s name has not yet been released. Mass. State Police said that the officer’s body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office in Westfield.

The incident remains under investigation by Mass. State Police, with assistance from Uxbridge Police.
