HADLEY, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Animal welfare officials report that the number of animals seized from a Hadley property has now grown to over 300 animals.

MSPCA-Angell spokesperson Sara-Rose Brenner said that 315 animals of various species are recovering their care after being removed on Wednesday. After their removal, they were brought to facilities to undergo exams to determine any medical needs and assess their body condition for nutritional needs. Those animals include:

MassWildlife and Mass. Environmental Police are now working with MSPCA-Angell to determine treatment and next steps for the wildlife.

“It took dozens of our own staff in Law Enforcement and several other departments, as well as a lot of help from Hadley Police,” said MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement Director Chris Schindler in a statement. “We know that a lot of the animals are very underweight and displaying signs consistent with being housed outdoors in cold weather without adequate access to food, water, and shelter.”

Brenner added the investigation into the case remains ongoing and updates would be released when they become available.

Those who may need help caring for farm animals in Hampshire and Franklin Counties can contact the Northwestern District Animal Protection Task Force or the MSPCA-Angell Equine Relief Program.
