Murder investigation underway after body discovered in Sheffield

SHEFFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Berkshire County man, accused of murder, is expected in court Tuesday.
Julia Sabourin, spokesperson for the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office, said a witness reported to Connecticut State Police on Monday seeing a dead body on Polikoff Road in the Ashley Falls section of Sheffield. Authorities then contacted Sheffield Police, which responded, located a body, and contacted Mass. State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s office early Monday afternoon.
A suspect, identified as 41-year-old Cole Bushnell of Ashley Falls, was not at the scene when police arrived, but he returned to the scene around 5:20 p.m. Monday and was placed under arrest. “At this point, it is still unclear if the Defendant returned to the scene to turn himself in or for other reasons,” Sabourin added.
Bushnell is scheduled to face a judge in Great Barrington District Court Tuesday for arraignment on one count of murder.
Sabourin noted that the investigation into the incident “is in its infancy” and more information will be released when it becomes available.
