New food service provider coming to Springfield schools

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - A change is coming to Springfield Public Schools.
On Monday, the district announced a new food service partnership with Chartwells Dining Services. The partnership will start July 1 and comes as the district’s current contract with Sodexo comes to an end.
The contract, which is approximately $28 million, lasts one year and will have four options to renew. School officials said students and staff will play an important role moving forward and feedback will be encouraged.
In the meantime, the district said families can expect no disruptions in meal services during this transition. Students will still have access to breakfast and meals where it’s currently being offered, as well as lunch and free meals to all students. The summer meal service is also expected to be uninterrupted.
Chartwells will also continue to provide fresh, locally sourced produce through partnerships with regional farms, scratch cooking practices with a focus on quality ingredients, and menu options that reflect Springfield’s different cultures.
