NORTHAMPTON, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Northampton man has learned his sentence after pleading guilty last month to several charges.

Melissa Sippel, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, said 35-year-old Adrian Cook was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in a House of Correction after pleading guilty last month to three counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and six counts of improper storage of a firearm.

The charges stemmed from a Northampton Police investigation into Cook’s digital accounts. Authorities executed a search warrant to seize electronic devices at his home and over 3,000 images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material were found. Six improperly stored firearms were also found.

Sippel noted that prosecutors recommended a three-year prison sentence, while Cook’s attorney asked for probation with a suspended sentence of two-and-a-half years in the House of Correction.

“Every image and video documents the abuse of a child, and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office remains committed to investigating these crimes, holding offenders accountable, and protecting children from exploitation.,” said Northwestern Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Jimenez in a statement.

Because of the convictions, Cook is required to register as a sex offender. Following his jail time, he will also be subject to five years of supervised probation with conditions including he must complete a sex offender evaluation and any recommended treatment, have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18, not reside with or have overnight visits involving minors, comply with all Sex Offender Registry Board requirements, submit to random searches of all digital devices, and forfeit all electronics and firearms seized in connection with the investigation.
