SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Several off-highway-vehicle riders are facing criminal complaints after Springfield Police conduct another operation.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said the department conducted three off-highway-vehicle details between Thursday and Saturday. The operations, he explained, are a continued effort by city officials to deter illegal dirt bikes and other off-highway-vehicles from city streets.

On Thursday, an electric motorcycle was seen on St. James Avenue, near Tapley Street. Officers then saw the rider enter Marshall Roy Park before stopping at a Notre Dame Street house. Once at the house, police conducted a traffic stop and found the vehicle did not have a license plate and the rider did not have a motorcycle license. “The rider also drove in a negligent manner through the park and on the sidewalk,” Walsh added. A criminal complaint was issued to the 28-year-old rider from Springfield and the bike was seized.

Later that day, a dirt bike was seen along Wilbraham Road. A traffic stop was conducted after the rider ended up in Emerson Wight Park on Marble Street. The dirt bike also seized and a criminal complaint is being sought against the 23-year-old rider from Springfield.

Walsh noted that, while police were dealing with the dirt bike on Marble Street, a person, who was not wearing a helmet, was seen riding an ATV rider on Marble Street. The ATV also then entered Emerson Wight Park and went to a house on Marble Street. The rider was stopped, the ATV was seized, and a criminal complaint was issued to the 37-year-old rider from Springfield.

On Saturday, a dirt bike was seen inside Magazine Park. Police stopped the rider, seized the bike, and a criminal complaint will be issued to the 33-year-old rider from Springfield. Later that day, officers saw another electric dirt bike on Armory Street. The rider continued riding through the city until it stopped on Carew Street. Officers found that the dirt bike was not registered and the rider, a 48-year-old Springfield resident, did not have an active driver’s license. The rider will be issued a criminal complaint and the dirt bike was seized.
