SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Authorities have identified a man shot and killed early Monday morning in a wooded area on Parker Street.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Parker Street around 2:40 a.m. and found Sean Pendergrast, 49, of Springfield, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died.

Elijah Salaam, 29, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Salaam had allegedly also placed the 911 call that brought officers to the scene.

The details of the shooting remain under investigation.
