HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – One person is dead following a weekend crash in Holyoke.

Holyoke Police was called to the area of 727-799 Northampton Street, also known as Route 5, around 11:35 a.m. Saturday for a reported three-vehicle crash. One male driver had to be extricated from his vehicle by firefighters. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died Saturday afternoon.

Investigators believe that the driver crossed the middle lane and crashed head-on into another vehicle. Three people were inside the vehicle that was struck and they were taken to an area hospital to be evaluated for any injuries.

A third vehicle was involved, but did not appear to suffer any damage and the drive was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
