One arrested, one wanted after deadly Holyoke shooting

HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – One person is in custody and another is being sought after a homicide in Holyoke.
Payton North, spokesperson for the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, said Holyoke Police responded to the area of 139 Sargeant Street for a report of shots fired and a victim around 5:40 p.m. on April 18. When they arrived, they found 31-year-old Robert Abreu of Holyoke suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation determined that the shooting followed a fight that involved several people. It’s alleged that someone approached Abreu and assaulted him, while he was sitting in his vehicle, when a gun was fired and a bullet struck him. After the shooting, 21-year-old Delani Rodriguez and 22-year-old Daniel Medina, both of Holyoke, allegedly fled the scene as investigators recovered a gun and additional evidence through search warrants.
Rodriguez was arrested on a murder charge on April 22 in Springfield. She was arraigned on April 23 and is being without the right to bail pending a pretrial hearing on May 22. Authorities are still searching for Medina, who is also wanted for murder. “Investigators have identified Medina as the individual who discharged the firearm during the altercation,” North explained.
Anyone with information on Medina’s whereabouts or the case is urged to call State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s office at 413-505-5993.
