Open burning season begins in Massachusetts

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Open burning season officially started Thursday, but before lighting the flame, local fire departments want you to be mindful of the safety regulations.
Regardless of where you live, you will need a permit from your local fire department. Once you have it, it’s your responsibility to put out any fires at a moment’s notice. You also need to be a at least 75 feet away from any building and can only be done from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
State officials added that open burning is not allowed in several “densely built or populated cities and towns” including the western Massachusetts cities of Chicopee, Holyoke, Springfield, and West Springfield.
