HADLEY, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Animal welfare officials have removed over 150 animals from a Hampshire County property.

MSPCA-Angell spokesperson Sara-Rose Brenner said that goats, cows, pigs, sheep, rabbits, one pony, and several domestic and farm birds - including chickens, geese, cockatiels, and parrots – were removed Wednesday from what they described as “poor conditions” at a Hadley property.

MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement Director Chris Schindler said that many of the animals didn’t have access to food and water and the majority of them were living outside without adequate protection from the elements. Efforts were reportedly underway to try and work with the property owner to ensure the animals receive the care they need, but he noted that, “Ultimately, we weren’t successful, and it was clear that intervention was necessary, so we executed a search and seizure warrant [Wednesday] to seize them.”

The animal will now be brought to MSPCA-Angell facilities for care while the court process proceeds. Those who would like to donate to help support the MSPCA can do so online.
