Passing driver’s 911 call leads crews to Agawam attic fire

AGAWAM, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- A resident was displaced after an attic fire made a Main Street home uninhabitable early Tuesday morning, officials said.
A passing driver called in the fire just before 6 a.m. after seeing smoke coming from the roof. Because the fire was contained to the attic, smoke detectors in the home’s living spaces had not activated.
Officials said the fire could have been worse without the driver’s call. No injuries were reported.
Crews extinguished the fire, which officials said was caused by an electrical malfunction.
