Procession for fallen Uxbridge officer to begin in Westfield

WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - A central Massachusetts community will come together Friday to say goodbye to a fallen officer.
Family and friends of Stephen Laporta will pay their respects to honor the fallen Uxbridge police officer, who was killed in the line of duty. His final journey in start in Westfield when his body leaves the medical examiner’s office and heads to the Uxbridge Police Department where his family will be observing.
Laporta, 43, was killed while working in the line of duty early Wednesday morning. He was helping a passenger in a car accident on Route 146 north when he and his patrol vehicle were hit by a tractor trailer. Emergency crews pronounced Laporta dead at the scene, despite performing life saving measures.
Governor Maura Healey has ordered all flags at state buildings be flown at half staff to honor Laporta on Wednesday.
Laporta leaves behind a wife and 13-year-old son.
