Rental scam alert issued in Holyoke as fake listings appear online

HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Holyoke Police are warning people looking for rentals online about a scam.
Detectives said Thursday there are people reportedly posting fake listings on Craigslist and social media, then asking for deposits or upfront rent before you’ve even seen the place.
Police added the homes may not be for rent or may actually be for sale.
Their advice is to not send any money until you’ve seen the property in-person and verified the landlord is legitimate.
