WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – State Senator John Velis has returned from his six-month deployment with the Massachusetts National Guard.

In October, he announced that he would be placed on an active-duty deployment to the southwestern border of the United States, though additional details about his deployment are not immediately available.

“It’s an incredible feeling to be back with my family and our community. I’m eager to get back to work ahead of the Senate’s budget debates later this month to secure vital funding for our district and to fight for the issues at the top of mind of so many residents,” Velis said in a statement.

While Velis was deployed, his office remained fully operational and assisted with constituent needs and Senate matters.
