BOSTON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey wants to know if the Department of Homeland Security has created a database on protesters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In a letter, Senator Markey asks the acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement if they’re collecting information on those peacefully protesting.

he says if the Trump Administration is doing so, it is a quote, “shocking violation”, of the first amendment.

Markey’s inquiry follows exclusive reporting from CNN last week that federal immigration officers have been collecting personal information about protesters and agitators in Minneapolis.

At that time, a spokesperson for DHS told CNN there was no such database.
