Shelter races to rescue kittens left in home without AC as heat climbs

(WGGB/WSHM) -- A local animal shelter is asking for the public’s help rescuing cats and kittens left behind after their owner unexpectedly entered assisted living.
Second Chance Animal Services said the home has no air conditioning and rescuers said Wednesday they need to act quickly before the heat puts the animals in danger.
So far, 16 cats have been safely taken in, including 14 kittens - some as young as 10 days old. Among those rescued are a nursing mother and another cat that is pregnant.
Rescuers said at least two adult cats ran and still need to be caught. There could be others hiding on the property.
Second Chance Animal Services is looking for foster families for the cats. The shelter is also seeking nursing cats that could help feed the young kittens.
Anyone who wants to help can contact the shelter at secondchanceanimals.org.
