AGAWAM, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Six Flags New England will open its first new roller coaster in almost a decade to the public on Friday.

The Quantum Accelerator, brain-child of park president Pete Carmichael, is designed to bridge the gap between the park’s mega thrill rides and smaller roller coasters.

“This is one of the most unique and innovative attractions we have launched in Six Flags history,” Carmichael said. “This is the perfect family thrill attraction. It is something that is fun and exciting for the entire family.”

The coaster reaches speeds of 45 miles per hour and climbs to a height of 57 feet. Riders experience a 90-degree turn that tilts them entirely sideways.

The ride includes two launches, with the second launch reaching the fastest speed.

Six Flags New England spokesperson Sydney Snow noted that the coaster reaches a speed of 30-miles-per-hour before the 90-degree turn and the acceleration to 45 miles per hour during the second launch.
