SOUTHAMPTON — Police and Fire responded to two different emergencies on Sunday with no reported injuries: a house that caught fire on Brickyard Road from the improper disposal of a cigarette and a truck that crashed into the side of a house on County Road.

Southampton Fire Chief Richard Fasoli said the fire on Brickyard Road was called in by a “passerby” at approximately 12:30 p.m. He said the fire started on the back deck of the home and climbed up the side of the building.

“The fire was mostly contained to the outside of the house,” Fasoli said.

Fasoli said house’s four occupants are likely displaced but none were injured. A Facebook post from the Southampton Fire Department said due to the high temperature that day it made it “a difficult fire,” but crews were able to contain it.

Later that day, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Fasoli said a truck collided with the side of a house on County Road, adding that no one in the home was injured. The driver declined medical treatment. Police Chief Ian Illingsworth could not be immediately reached for comment and the crash is still under investigation.

Fasoli said the fire earlier in the day had been taken care of and did not interfere with emergency response.

Mutual aid was provided for the fire by Easthampton, Westfield, Holyoke, Northampton, Massachusetts State Police, the Barnes Air National Guard Base and the Red Cross.
