Southbridge officer injured during drug arrest, dog killed

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- Southbridge police say an investigation led to an officer injury and the death of a dog on Thursday night. Around seven p.m., officers observed what they believed was a drug deal.
The investigation led officers to an apartment on Dean Street where they identified Felix Resto, known due to previous drug investigations.
Police say resto tried to flee, and a struggle broke out. A pit bull then attacked an officer, causing injuries that required emergency room treatment.
Officers say they attempted to restrain the dog but were unsuccessful. Due to the immediate threat, an officer shot the animal, killing it.
36-year-old Felix Resto is charged with multiple drug distribution offenses. 34-year-old Angel M. Guzman is facing charges as well.
