SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Springfield Central High School was honored Wednesday for winning Hampden County’s “Stop the Swerve” initiative, which is a driving safety campaign aimed at raising awareness for the dangers of distracted driving.

Participating students created a video submission to show those risks.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni was in attendance to present a $3,500 check to the school, which will go towards film production and their media program. “It’s a bigger deal than, you know, people make it out to be. It’s really important to actually listen to the advice people give you, especially at a young age...especially about...safe driving and stuff because you might think, oh, you know, that doesn’t mean much, but...you never know what could happen,” said Springfield Central High School senior Adriana Lynn Pingree.

Along with the students winning the video contest, they also placed second in the billboard design competition.
