Springfield fire displaces 16 residents

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Over a dozen people are without a place to live after an overnight fire in Springfield.
Springfield Fire Capt. Drew Piemonte said crews were called to 26-28 Wilcox Street around 1 a.m. Saturday. A fifth alarm would eventually struck before crews were able to extinguish the fire.
Sixteen people have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
The city’s Arson and Bomb Squad determined the fire started in a first floor apartment’s living room and spread to the back porches. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
