Springfield fire issues statement on heating systems following carbon monoxide calls

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- The Springfield Fire Department is issuing a warning for homeowners with direct vent heating systems.
As of Monday, they have been receiving a high volume of calls regarding carbon monoxide detectors going off.
They are now telling us that these detectors can be activated when direct heating systems are blocked following a significant snowfall.
They are now reminding homeowners with these heating systems to inspect and clear any obstructions, such as snow, from their vent pipes.
