SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Springfield Police have arrested a suspect whom they allege stole thousands of dollars worth of items from several Boston Road stores.

On Thursday, detectives applied for, and were granted, an arrest warrant for 42-year-old Porfirio Diaz of Springfield and a search warrant for his Parker Street home. Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said Diaz allegedly put items into shopping carts or similar items repeatedly and refused to stop for loss prevention officers at Marshall’s and Lowe’s on Boston Road. The total amount of the stolen items from the various alleged incidents totaled more than $10,000.

On Friday, investigators arrested Diaz at his Parker Street home and they located several of the stolen items during a search of the home.

Diaz has been charged with 10 counts of larceny over $1,200. Walsh noted that Diaz also had two active default warrants, one on a charge of larceny over $1,200 by a single scheme and the other on charges of receiving stolen property, trespassing, and disorderly conduct
