Springfield man arrest on gun, drug charges

SPRINGFIELD, MA. (WGGB/WSHM) - An illegal gun has been taken off Springfield streets after police witnessed suspected drug deals Thursday afternoon.
Around 4:30 p.m., officers saw 39-year-old Jose Lopez-Santos of Springfield conduct those alleged deals on the 600 block of State Street. Police detained him shortly after, near the intersection of State and Thompson Streets, and recovered a gun, which was reported stolen out of Holyoke. They also seized snap-caps with cocaine, crack-cocaine, and heroin before placing Lopez-Santos under arrest.
Lopez-Santos now faces several charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm violation with three prior violent or drug crimes, receiving stolen property less than $1,200, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug (subsequent offense) and two counts of possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug (subsequent offense).
