Springfield man arrested after fleeing bus, failing to report for prison sentence

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Springfield man has been arrested on two warrants after reportedly not turning himself into court to serve a prison sentence.
Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that officers received information early Thursday afternoon that 42-year-old Robert Anderson of Springfield, whom was recently sentenced to five to seven years in state prison, was getting onto a bus in Springfield.
The court granted Anderson a ‘stay’ before his sentence was set to begin, but he allegedly did not return to court to turn himself in. The bus was located on the 200 block of State Street and he ran out the bus’s back door. He then ran down Temple Street, but police caught up to him and placed him under arrest after he wasn’t able to scale a fence.
Anderson is facing a charge of resisting arrest, along with charges on a Hampden County Superior court warrant of rape, kidnapping, trafficking of a person for sexual servitude, assault and battery on a family or household member, resisting arrest, and threatening to commit a crime. Hampshire Superior Court also had a default warrant out for Anderson on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disturbing a correctional institution.
