SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Springfield man is facing several charges after allegedly breaking into and stealing several items from a transportation company.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that officers were called to a transportation company on the 200 block of Verge Street on the morning of March 21 for a reported break-in. A window and other equipment were found damaged and, during an inventory, employees told investigators that approximately 11 key fobs, checks, phones, and tools, along with a vehicle, were missing.

Detectives were able to identify 26-year-old Richard Wright of Springfield as a suspect and, on March 23, they found the stolen vehicle unoccupied on Wendell Place. It’s also alleged that Wright cashed more than $6,300 in forged checks as the search for him continued. In addition, the cost to replace the stolen key fobs and reprogram the impacted vehicles was approximately $10,000 and the tools, which belonged to an employee, were worth over $8,000.

On Thursday, an arrest warrant was executed on a Ridgewood Place in which Wright was staying. He was arrested and detectives reportedly recovered evidence and a majority of the stolen items following a search of his home and vehicle.

Wright is facing several charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, two counts of larceny over $1,200, three counts of possession of a counterfeit note, breaking and entering into a building at nighttime for a felon, three counts of larceny by check over $1,200, and three counts of uttering a counterfeit note.
