Springfield Police arrest 18-year-old in connection with deadly shooting

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A suspect in custody in connection with a 2024 murder in Springfield.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that officers were called to a ShotSpotter activation on the 0-100 block of Massasoit Street in the late-night hours of Sunday, July 14, 2024. When they arrived, police located an adult male victim, identified as 19-year-old Damontey Williams of Springfield. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Detectives investigating the case were able to identify 18-year-old Janadiel Resto-Sepulveda of Springfield as a possible suspect. On Monday, they applied for and were granted an arrest warrant and Resto-Sepulveda was arrested Tuesday morning inside a Middlesex Street apartment.

Resto-Sepulveda is facing charges including murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and carrying a firearm without a license. He is expected to appear in Springfield District Court for arraignment Tuesday afternoon.
