SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- All those piles of snow means a day off for students and non-essential workers. Western Mass News is bringing you stories from people we spoke to, as they enjoy the fresh snowfall throughout Springfield.

Springfield resident Marcelino Vazquez tells us, “Probably since I was a kid, I think we haven’t seen this much snow.”

Just like your average New Englanders, people were out having a ball all day, or should we say “snowball”.

Jetxiel Osorio, a student from Duggan Academy, says, “Now that we’ve got better snow instead of the hard one... now it’s a better time for us to come here and slide down and have fun.”

Monday was a day off for all the schools in our region, plus a day off for some workers, but not all.

“[I] worked all morning cleaning snow and not spending the rest of the day with the kids... Go home, make some hot cocoa, and watch some movies... Any time with the kids is a good time,” Vazquez continues.

Several schools have already cancelled for Tuesday as well, so you’ll probably be seeing some more packed slopes filled with sleds, snowboards, and skis.

Those who did have to head into the office on Monday didn’t have as much fun as those with the day off.

We spoke to a man named Chuck, who tells us, “Are you, are you having fun?...Not really, they don’t pay me enough for this.”
